The YMCA Earth Service Corps had a retreat at the Farmhouse for high school students in leadership positions in environmental and social action groups.
Since good soil is key to successful community gardening, and growing food locally, we went out in the garden and learned about compost, tilth and cover crops.
The winter rye that had been planted last fall was flipped over and chopped up. The leaves and roots will decompose, adding organic matter to the soil.
Thank you, Earth Service Corps!
