Whidbey Island Waldorf School Gardeners!

September 9, 2011 by whidbeylearningfromtheland

The 3rd grade class from the Whidbey Island Waldorf School will be joining us this Fall and Winter to help turn compost, sow seeds, plant garlic, cover crop beds, harvest (and eat berries & veggies) and enjoy the peaceful space of the Westgarden at the Whidbey Institute. They sowed the seeds this past Spring and will continue to deepen their relationship with the natural world throughout this year!

This week they began with sowing Arugula seedsand planting perennial plants, Hyssop & Anise Hyssop, that are especially Bee friendly!  Then, they ended their time in the garden with finding an observation spot that they’ll go back to each time they come to the garden. A spot where they can watch the seasonal transitions and get to know their own special patch of land.
